Adventure Layout

I signed up for Catherine Davis' Design School Preview Class (which is free!) It's a sneak of her new class Design School 2.
This is the layout I made from Lesson 1: Catherine Davis. I love using lots of alphas on my layouts in a creative way. I made so many layouts since spring trying to use up full alphas (since I'm a bit of an alpha hoarder). So this lesson was right up my alley.

The background paper is an older Studio Calico patterned paper. I honestly didn't know what to do with it. I've pulled it out many times to use but came up blank. It was the perfect colour for this alpha. I decided to just go with the green from it ignoring the earth. It ended up working great with the photo of Milly from a trip to Vancouver Island.

I love layering and have a hard time making a layout without something being layered on it. It's also a great way to use up all these paper scraps and 4x6 paper pads from Studio Calico. I love those things!
The little shovel is from a vintage October Afternoon collection. I. LOVE. October Afternoon!!!! (I'll take any and all hoarded OA stashes out there if your purging your stash haha!)

I cut an old Studio Calico paper pad paper in half. Used the map part tucked in under the photo and the other for the journaling.

I wanted a little bling but didn't want to add much in terms of embellishments so I tore a little strip of Maggie Holmes' metallic silver washi tape and guess what, layered it on the layers! ha. Yay for layers.

Go check out the free class comprising of 3 lessons if your in need of a little self time or inspiration.
